What is an adjustment?
An adjustment in basic terms refers to the procedure in which the chiropractor gently and skilfully applies a controlled force from his or her hands to a specific joint in the patient’s spine. We offer a number of adjustment techniques, including low force adjustments, which are safe and effective for babies, children and the elderly.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Adjustments for the most part should not hurt. Chiropractors train for years to perform these correctly on patients. There is an associated “pop” sound which is simply a gaseous reaction within the joint of the spine. What the chiropractor is doing is getting the joints of the spine to move correctly and restore the spine to as normal a state as possible.
Sometimes, when a joint hasn’t been functioning correctly for a while, it can be tender after the first adjustment. This is because your body begins to ‘free up’ in that area. Discomfort can also be felt after the removal of nerve interference. This is because the adjustment allows-the sensor-nerves to begin functioning again sending previously blocked pain messages to the brain from an injured part of the body.
What is a Subluxation?
A subluxation is a misalignment of the vertebral segments (spinal bones), causing an irritation to spinal nerve roots. The spinal roots send information via the nervous system to the organs, cells and tissues of the body. The nervous system controls and regulates the body; consequently any interference to the spinal nerves may affect your— organs, tissues and cells and thus your health.
How do I know if I have a Subluxation?
Sometimes you don’t! A subluxation can cause you to suffer symptoms. You may have previously experienced symptoms as the result of a subluxation or you may be predisposed to symptoms. The only way to tell is to have us perform a Chiropractic examination.
What type of conditions does a Chiropractor treat?
Chiropractors don’t actually treat any specific disease, condition or symptom. The human body has a natural ability to heal itself, unless that power to heal is interfered with. Chiropractors remove interferences that are occurring throughout the nervous system. They do this by carrying out spinal adjustments. This will release the innate power to heal that is within each and every one of us.
If I go to a chiropractor, do I have to go for the rest of my life?
You don’t HAVE to do anything, but we find that most people who experience genuine Chiropractic care continue with adjustments and checkups regularly. They enjoy the elevated level of health and well being. In any case, the choice is always yours. Why do Chiropractors adjust children? Children can be subluxated too, even from birth; a subluxation can cause neurological disturbances. The nerve impulses travelling back and forth between the brain and the body are what control and coordinate development. Children’s growing bodies must have full and free flowing nerve communication to reach their full potential. ‘As the twig is bent so grows the tree.’
How long does care last?
This depends on several things: how long the subluxation has been there: what caused them: the amount of permanent spinal damage and lifestyle, we could go on, BUT, generally speaking, a typical schedule can go through three stages: Intensive; corrective; maintenance or wellness care.
How can I help my family and friends?
Tell them how Chiropractic care helped you: encourage them to look after their spine. Show them this website or bring them along to one of your adjustments. Referrals are the life stream of our practice and we gladly welcome your friends and family as new patients.
